Winter project

Here is another knitting-related post. This project has been going on for more than a year. Now I finally decided to put it together. It will be a woollen throw and it's not going to be ready this week, or even the next, but this winter at least. When I get it done, I'll show you.

Autumn always brings along the desire to start knitting. The Knit Hit Kit is great way to get started. It includes materials and instructions. What a super great present too! You can get several different kits from Weranna's Warehouse.

Colours of autumn

I've always been an 'autumn-girl' and ones again this year, even with the rain, it's beautiful and my favourite. Today presented the best of autumn: Fresh air, sun and time with all my nearest and dearest.

Lucas Maassen and Sons

You have probably seen these photos already but I just have to post them, because I'm totally fascinated by this! Dutch designer Lucas Maassen has has employed his three sons who are responsible for the paint job of the designed furniture. The sons work only 3 hours a week and get paid one euro for every piece of furniture they paint. Good work boys!

Beautiful necessities

I recently found some necessary items for the house in very beautiful packages: Fire blanket from Hong Kong 15,90 e, olive oil from S-Market 5,90 e. My favourite coffee Saula still comes all the way from Spain, but maybe soon someone will sell it here too.

Art of Jennifer Collier

Artist Jennifer Collier can make almost anything out of paper by bonding, waxing and stitching it. Here are some of her brilliant remakes of everyday household objects.

Lolo & Roro

Lolo & Roro is a 10-year anniversary exhibition of the degree program of Applied Art and Design in Aalto University. The great surroundings together with the latest work of young designers as well as works from alumni provide a super great experience. I recommend making a trip to the Port Warehouse.

Co-create with Lego

I went to see the white Lego towers made by Icelandic-Danish architect group Krads. The towers are smaller than I expected but nevertheless impressive. If you have time, make a trip to Cable factory to see them. The towers made me wonder where to get only white Lego blocks?  I was told that at least Lego-shop in Copenhagen sells all colours separately.

September is always a hectic month in the design field and I have been a little slow with this but here it finally is, my calendar for September:

World Design Capital Helsinki 2012’s main exhibition, Everyday Discoveries – International
Design House Exhibition takes place in Suvilahti. Hundreds of designers from 23 countries have contributed to the exhibition that also spreads to the outdoor container village. The exhibition offers concrete examples of design solutions that different countries have for the same everyday situations. The free exhibition is open 6.9-16.9.2012 Mon-Fri 12-20, Sat-Sun 10-18 at Suvilahti, Helsinki.

Photographer Ola Kolehmainen and designer Harri Koskinen both have their individual exhibitions in Galerie Forsblom starting September 14th.

Icelandic-Danish architectural studio Krads will come to town and create fantastic landscapes with 200 000 Lego blocks and transform the Cable Factory into an expansive Lego construction site.

Food meets art at G.W. Sundmans when chef Matti Jämsen and eight artists combine their talent. Unique art pieces form a setup for the exquisite food.

Mix ‘n’ Match

I found these super great wallpapers by British designer Kirath Ghundoo while surfing the Internet today. The wallpapers were originally presented in 100 % Design in London last year. Mix 'n' Match concept includes seven different wallpaper patterns that can be mixed together anyway you like. The wallpapers are sold in designer's own web shop.

Modern dream catcher

I was asked to design a colorful DIY mobile for a German magazine Nido last spring. They invited several designers and artists to send they modern versions of classic mobile. My crazy, crochet dream catcher is now in the magazine!
