Jar for brushes

My paint brushes needed a place. An old cardboard candyjar got a new look with some harlequin wrapping paper from Minimega. Eiffel-eraser of course, from Paris.

Cardboard shelving

This brilliant design by Teemu Järvi will move into our house. Kasaa cardboard shelf is made out of a sturdy but lightweight cardboard. It comes in two different sized units that pile up to form a modular shelving system. The combinations are limitless. Each unit folds up with two flat-packed cardboard sheets without  glue or additional fittings. It can also be recycled as paper.

DIY iPhone case

I don't have an iPhone but I sure would like to have after I saw this great idea of a DIY-iPhone case by Korean Connect Design. You get a kit containing a rubber case, instructions, needle and thread and after some minutes or hours (or days), your phone will have the coolest case ever...

Paper art

Paper is one of my favourite materials because there's so much you can do with it. On a sunny Sunday I made a piece of colorful wall art with scissors, colorful papers and glue.

Techno folklore

Swedish born Emma Lundgren, a graduate from London Royal Collage of Art was named one of 2010’s up-and-coming fashion designers by Swedish ELLE Magazine. She is definitely a fashion talent to keep in mind. Her latest Samilight-collection is a fascinating combination of 21st century digital techniques and nordic artisan traditions such as print, knit, crochet and embroidery. She creates passionate fashion for those who want to take the nordic tradition to the wilder side. I just love the work and the attitude!

Spellbinding book

I'm a book lover. Especially I'm a fan of great illustration. 'Lumoojien sukua'-book by Nemo publishing is gorgeous! It's actually a pack of two books -one telling a story about a little girl and the other telling spellbinding tales of women that maybe had something to do with witchcraft. The illustration is by Benjamin Lacombe who has done very impressive work including a stunning pop-up book about the world's most known fairytales. If you can get a hold of this book or any of his books, please do -each one is a piece of art.

Stitch and Wooly

Stitch and Wooly are two chair designed by German designer Susanne Westphal. They are unfinished chairs that want to be finished by the user. I love the idea of combining the original and little bit of your own...

DIY Notice board

This notice board is made out of perforated chipboard and colorful elastic bands. Part of the chipboard was cut into house shapes, painted with spray paint and then attached into the main board with elastic bands. What a great place for all the pencils, notebooks and notes!

Magnets and jewellery

Sewing thread used to be rolled on these beautiful reels. Too bad they are now mostly made out of plastic. I was lucky to find these old wooden beauties in a fleamarket and made a necklace and some magnets out of them. Both are very simple to do. You can get round magnets from the stores selling craft supplies and for the necklace you only need a strong string.
So, keep your eyes open when visiting a fleamarket...

Trash remake

Habitare in Helsinki introduces some beautiful 'trash' in trash design exhibition. Everyday objects have turned into great design. I really like the carrier for firewood by Lassi Alestalo. It is made out of old air ventilation pipe.

Mustard, my love



Habitare design and furniture fair in Helsinki is full of great interior ideas and new furniture. For some reason I'm now in love with mustard color and the many ways it goes with grey and brown. Here are some exemples from this years Habitare.

Nice combos of colors make good art. A company called Someprint.com in Manchester, England makes these posters and much more and ships all over the world. The last one is Mona Lisa by the way...

Nose job

Great, simple ideas often work the best and here is a good example. Since everyone needs pencils and a sharpener, why not do it the fun way? This cute Gepetto can hold a pencil and make it sharp too.

Small DIY bag

A woman can never have too many purses or toiletry bags. For this small bag you only need a cotton or canvas purse and textile markers. Let your inner artist go wild and sketch on! To make the art work stay and be washable, iron the image after it is dry.

Ribbon art

I like jewellery and I know an interesting piece of jewellery when I see one. London based Jennifer Loiselle makes the most magnificent necklaces, hats and earrings out of colourful ribbons and has an Etsy shop. One of her necklaces would be my choice for today.

Shades of blue

I like the look of unfinished and child-like in furniture. This Gradient Table by Paul Loebach for Areaware is a great example.

Magical sticks

Our family has a couple of stick collectors who pick up sticks everywhere they go. Nice wooden sticks turn into magical sticks with some acrylic paint and leftover ribbons. Simple and so magical!
