Flea market finds

This is my latest catch from the flea market: Cute ceramic wall decorations by Danish artist Björn Wiinblad. They belong to a series of twelve different ones, all named after months. The masquerade is February and apple tree October. I have no idea where they will end up in the house but I just couldn't resist them.

Helsinki 2020

I took part in a panel discussion the other day. The topic was how do we live in Helsinki 2020. It was a very interesting talk and I'm happy that Helsinki is actively looking for different housing possibilities. The discussion was part of the exhibition currently on display at Laituri. It shows eight already realized urban housing cases from cities across world and scale models of dream homes that are based on the interviews with Helsinki citizens. Who knows, maybe we also have a chance to live in urban townhouses or floating homes in the near future!

From the top: Fahle house in Tallinn, Susd Highwood court townhouses in London, Floating houses in Amsterdam and loft in Seattle. The last photo is a scale model of future apartment by Tuomas Toivonen and  Nene Tsuboi.

Workroom

Workroom is an art exhibition of my talented brother. It is not the usual kind of exhibition where paintings hang on the walls but more like a visit to many houses. There are small houses on the walls and a playhouse-size house standing on the gallery floor. The technique Jussi uses is woodcut printing. The surfaces of smaller houses are covered with carefully chosen, beautiful details and inside the big house you may see where it all originated from - the carved, wooden plates. I am a proud sister!

New faces in town

I'm a fan of  Miller & Goodman's work. Their new super cute FaceMaker blocks are in stores now and at least Ombrellino here in Helsinki sells them. The new blocks can also be combined with earlier ShapeMaker blocks for even more possibilities!

Rie Elise Larsen

What a relaxing Easter I had, lot's of sleep and no hurry! I don't normally decorate for Easter at all because to me it makes no sense to decorate only for few days. All I made this past weekend was two paper garlands from Danish Rie Elise Larsen's colorful papers and they can be used all year round. By the way, the homepage of Rie Elise is filled with wonderful things and images. Check it out!

Colours of Reykjavik

I visited Iceland for the first time in my life a week ago and instantly fell in love with the country. The nature is incredible and unique, Reykjavik is small and cosy and people easy-going and friendly. Reykjavik also has a unique, colourful range of houses and I must have taken several hundred photos of the different buildings and walls. Here are some pics of the colourful city!
