Simply Slowwood

Dutch company Slowwood makes timeless, good quality furniture with raw elegance and a low impact to our planet. Their eco-friendly furniture is made in the Netherlands by local craftsmen, from solid wood and painted with mineral paint. I love the furniture, the slow life mentality behind it as well as the simple styling of their photos. Simply great!

Art of Julie Thevenot

Today I'm admiring the jewelry and art of Julie Thevenot. She has graduated from Paris but currently lives and works as a fashion designer and artist in New York. Her idea of wall art is something totally new and I like her necklaces too.

Jasmin Anoschkin

I went to see Jasmin Anoschkin's latest exhibition yesterday and was impressed, especially by her big (and I mean really big) wooden sculptures. They are like modern day totem poles of female life. The use of bold colours, humor and everyday objects in her work is fantastic and fascinating. The watering can lady is my personal favourite.

Family of spoons and spatulas

Every member of our family has had the flu during the past weeks and we have spent a lot of time indoors. I have tried to keep the children from being totally bored with small art projects. This is no new idea put we did our version of the spoon and spatula family.

Embroidery carpet

This great idea of cross stitched carpet comes from designer Charlotte Lancelot from Belgium. The carpet is like an oversized handmade embroidery on felt. It is available in two sizes and the customers can choose a white or a coloured stitch.

Erik Johansson photography

Erik Johansson is Swedish photographer who has a portfolio that puts me on a good mood. He has turned photo retouching into art and looks at the world with a good sense of humour.

Painted squares

I've been painting cubic beads -just for the fun of it. I'm not sure what I will do with them all eventually but at least they make nice necklaces.

Tram ride to stationary shop

There is a hidden treasure in my old neighborhood in Töölö. Töölön Paperi is a good, old fashioned stationary shop full of charm and things waiting to be found. You can still get separately sold envelopes in different colors, old fashioned paper dolls, wooden toys and a selection of over 6000 postcards. There is no plastic and no Disney. I took a tram to visit the shop yesterday and bought this cute tram tote and some fashion paper dolls.

Poster and clock

Behind this cute idea is a Finnish designer and illustrator Birgit Paavola who has her own blog and a small webshop. She is very much inspired by retro wallpapers, fabrics and old household items and uses nice, bold colours in her work. This poster (42x29cm)  is designed to be used as a wall clock and with clock mechanism added. Great idea!

Mother's aprons

I found this cute apron-shop called Mother at Etsy and fell in love with their photos. There's something old-fashioned and yet modern in them.

Beautiful tools

I've always liked tools, not only for they can do but the way they look. I love brushes, rulers, old household tools and always look for interesting ones in flea markets. All these tools belong to my mother and isn't there so much beauty in them?

Light in Design Forum Shop

Design Forum Shop has experienced  a great facelift: The shop is now bigger, spacious and full of  interesting Finnish design. The new 'shop-in-shop' concept introduces designers and designs under a certain theme. February's theme will be light which fills the shop with Finnish lighting design including Tunto Design, Secto Design and Saas Instruments just to name a few.
The new modern look of  the shop is visualised in the great photos by Liisa Valonen. I like!
