Lost in the land of colours

I'm lost in the land of colours! I am trying to decide the colours of the walls in our new house and the obvious choice of all white feels boring. Right now I'm thinking of adding a little bit of indigo blue or dark green perhaps...

True Blue by Ikea

True blue is Ikea's new limited edition collection inspired by India. It has been launched in Britain and Sweden already and it may arrive also to Finland later this year... Let's hope it does.

Debate over floors

I  wish this was my house, but it's not. But now it starts, the renovation of the new home. We have taken down some walls and removed all the old flooring materials all the way to the concrete. Now the debate is over floors. I wanted concrete but can't have it, since it is an old house and concrete flooring in Finland needs heating. That means that we would have to rip everything apart.  So wood it is, but what kind, that is the question. If  I would have all the money in the world, these Dinesen floors would be my choice -the widest planks you can get.

Minakani Walls

Lovely wallpapers from French Minakani Walls. The studio offers custom size and exclusive motifs printed into high quality non-woven paper. The one in the middle is my favourite.

New from Habitat

I have another school related post for you: Habitat has launched a series of new chairs that look like old school chairs with colored legs. This would be a good painting idea if you ever find any old school chairs from flea markets.

Wood-like floor tiles

These floors are not wood but tile! Treverk Home by Italian Marazzi is a floor tile that looks like wood but is resistant to frost and moisture. There are four different colours and three different sizes. This could be a great solution for those who dream of having a wooden bathroom floor. I'm not usually a big fan of materials imitating each other but I saw this 'live' today and it does look surprisingly good! And it's available at your local K-Rauta.

Poster and clock

Behind this cute idea is a Finnish designer and illustrator Birgit Paavola who has her own blog and a small webshop. She is very much inspired by retro wallpapers, fabrics and old household items and uses nice, bold colours in her work. This poster (42x29cm)  is designed to be used as a wall clock and with clock mechanism added. Great idea!

Polkka Jam on wood

I have been a fan of Polkka Jam's retro-style posters for quite some time. Now they have printed their lovely illustrations on wood as well. The size of the wooden wall art is 50x70 cm. Beautiful!!!

Swing necklace

I found this beautiful swing today. It is designed by a German designer Johanna Richter and it proves again the theory that all you need is good material, simple idea and a little bit of child's imagination. I know all children and many adults too would love this.

Dottir & Sonur

Dottir &Sonur is a Berlin based company behind this cute Origami design and lamp. Their origami bird flies in wallpaper, posters and cushions. I could easily see that wallpaper in children's room. Products can be ordered directly from the designers.

Chair hangers

Often simple ideas are the best. This great idea of old chair backs as hangers comes from Italian Antonello Fusè. Simply lovable!

Sleepy

This dark November is taking a toll on me and I feel that sleeping is the best solution. I could hibernate like bears do or take a long snooze under the feather bed linen. These nice sheets are By Nord from Denmark. They have a webstore and many items so take a look and sleep well. I know I will.

Modern granny blanket

Oh my, this is fantastic! I found this most amazing modern granny blanket and instructions for it from Purlbee. It never occurred to me to make granny crochet like this, but now it's definitely something I have to try. The bright yellow looks great with classic gray. Purlbee has many other cool craft and knitting projects too, take a look.

I need a new camera and I'm trying to decide which one to choose. Before I make up my mind, I could inspire myself with this cool poster of retro cameras from Handz.

Warm hug from Iceland

I'm crazy about these woolen blankets from Iceland!!! They are designed by a company called
Vík Prjónsdóttir. It is a creative brand that designs and produces quality products from Icelandic sheep wool; a unique and sustainable source. They take inspiration from the nature and it shows in magical ways: Blankets resemble wings or a sealskin. In my opinion somebody should sell these in Finland, but untill then Birkiland is a place to shop for the blankets. I may have to do some shopping...
